Why learning English is the best decision you can make for your career 

English is the global language of business and the most widely spoken foreign language around the world. English is spoken by a quarter of the world’s population and is an official language in 59 countries.

1. English opens doors

This is increasingly true as global trade expands every year.  Good communication skills are essential for business survival and success and English remains the international lingua franca in a wide range of sectors. English is the dominant language in culture, diplomacy, commerce, media, science, academia, and IT, and having a good command of it will improve your chances of being able to work and succeed in these fields.

2. You will earn more

You are more likely to earn more if you know English, and for some jobs it is an essential requirement. For example, in Spain knowing English improves your employment prospects by 44%. Several international companies are adopting English as their language across all of their offices worldwide so if you want to work with them, or for them, you will need a good level of business English.

3. Access to online content

Social networking and relationships are conducted more in English than in any other language. A quarter of the world’s 4.3 billion people more use the internet in English; more than a quarter of all users; and 54% of internet content is in English.

4. Gain a postgraduate qualification

You will be able to boost your CV with a postgraduate qualification from an overseas university. Universities in non-English speaking countries are increasingly delivering postgraduate programmes taught in English. In fact, in Europe there are more than 11,000 university programmes to choose from. However, to be able to access these courses, most universities require an IELTS level of at least 5.0.

5. Better negotiations

A successful negotiation is one in which both parties feel they have achieved their key aims. To achieve this, diplomacy and skilful questioning are crucial in the process; being able to choose the appropriate language and being able to persuade others in the process are impossible without the necessary supporting language skills.

6. Effective presentations

Professional language training helps you to present information clearly and deal with questions effectively. You will feel more confident and you will have the skills to deal with tricky situations. This is particularly important when we are under stress and experience technical issues!
